Mad Plant enemy line

From Golden Sun Universe
(Redirected from Mad Plant)
In The Lost Age only, blowing away green leaves with the Cyclone Psynergy may reveal items, or one of these item-holding menaces.

Mad Plants (マッドプラント) are a series of enemies that first appear as a set of special enemy encounters throughout Golden Sun: The Lost Age, similar to the Mimic enemy line. These monsters resemble giant, animate Rafflesia-like flowers whose "mouths" appear more like real mouths due to their gaping teeth. Like the Mimic, a battle with a single Mad Plant - which has a different set of statistics between each specimen - automatically occurs as soon as it is uncovered, which is always done by casting the Cyclone Psynergy around a weed that it happens to be hiding underneath. A Mad Plant is always stronger and more durable than a given area's set of random enemies, but is always fought alone, and always drops an item when felled.

Unlike the Mimic, however, the Mad Plant makes a return appearance in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn in the form of a more traditional enemy line with differently-colored and powered variants that are fought as random encounters in different areas in the game. Their design is now a little less outwardly threatening, lacking their sharp teeth from the previous game.

In Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Five Mad Plants, each different statistically, can be found in The Lost Age, along with nine Mimics. They are not necessarily stronger or weaker than Mimics in general. Contrary to Mimics, however, all Mad Plants in overworld mode are well hidden; they are hidden underneath leaf clumps on the ground that can be blown away with the Cyclone Psynergy, and they will only appear and automatically attack if the party blows away the leaves that hide them. Not all players will end up finding every Mad Plant because of how much less obvious they are than the Mimics that lay out in the open, and because how chests are much more often investigated than leaf clumps.

All Mad Plants are visually identical in battle, but each Mad Plant has a unique setup of statistics and some differing moves between them. All Mad Plants in The Lost Age are ordered below by when each one can be first battled, and therefore they are also ordered by battling ability:
